Dear Friends & Supporters,
Peppermint Creek recognizes that we operate within systemic racism, and that neutrality and silence only feeds it further. We recognize that cultural spaces and institutions need to change to become more welcoming, safe, and inclusive to Black people. We hold ourselves immediately accountable for working to dismantle the systemic racism, oppression and violence that permeates our country and our artistic field and to identify, confront and address the barriers to involvement and attendance that keep Black, Indigenous, and People of Color mostly out of our spaces.
For more than two decades Peppermint Creek has staged plays that address social justice issues. We pledge to continue to do so. We do this out of a belief in equity and inclusion. While our Lansing stages are currently dark due to the coronavirus pandemic, as a community and a family, PCTC is committed to the work of anti-racism and anti-oppression in our organization, in our lives and in our art. We pledge to foster safe spaces for community members of color and brave spaces for dialogue. We know we can, and must, do more—and do better—to fight injustice and oppression.
Peppermint Creek Theatre stands with our Black performers, musicians, audiences and community in the fight against racial injustice in all its forms. Our theater is not just an institution, but a collective of humans, and until every member of our community is able to live safely and equitably valued in the eyes of our country and society, we are deficient. Committed to addressing vital issues in our society, raising awareness, and encouraging dialogue, Peppermint Creek can fulfill our mission only when all voices are protected equally. If you have thoughts about how we’re doing, we want to hear from you.
Black Lives Matter.
With love and hope,
The Board of Peppermint Creek Theatre Company
